Summary

The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the only book to provide an inside look at the magic behind the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed lands at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, documenting the art and innovations that led to the creation of Galaxy’s Edge。 Featuring hundreds of full-color concept artworks, sketches, blueprints, photographs, and more, the book will reveal Walt Disney Imagineering’s creative process。
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge invites guests to explore Black Spire Outpost, located on the remote Outer Rim planet Batuu—a spaceport bustling with First Order and Resistance activity where guests can interact with droids, creatures, and fan-favorite characters。 Alongside Black Spire Outpost’s vibrant cantina and marketplace, a new and original score composed by John Williams accompanies guests as they seek out the land’s two major attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which allows guests to commandeer the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, in which guests find themselves in the crossfire of a ferocious battle between the Resistance and the First Order。
Exclusive interviews with the key creative minds who shaped the lands’ design provide commentary on what it’s like to dream and then build a life-size Star Wars adventure。
Plus, the book offers an inside look at the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience, a first-of-its-kind immersive two-night adventure。

This was a really fun "Art of" book。 It's quite different from the ones for the movies and the shows since so much of it is interactive and viewable from every angle。 I particularly liked the inclusion of clean, hi-res versions of all the custom logos for the shops and products。 This was a really fun "Art of" book。 It's quite different from the ones for the movies and the shows since so much of it is interactive and viewable from every angle。 I particularly liked the inclusion of clean, hi-res versions of all the custom logos for the shops and products。 。。。more

Great overview of bringing Star Wars to the masses in the real world。 Being a tech nerd, I would love to have seen some of the mechanics of how they got the attractions to work, but that's probably giving away "proprietary information" or some other legal B。S。 Even without that, still a good look at this world I would love to visit。 Great overview of bringing Star Wars to the masses in the real world。 Being a tech nerd, I would love to have seen some of the mechanics of how they got the attractions to work, but that's probably giving away "proprietary information" or some other legal B。S。 Even without that, still a good look at this world I would love to visit。 。。。more

The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge arrives amid a crowded field of behind-the-scenes concept art books -- including Blade Runnner 2049: Interlinked that I reviewed recently -- but Amy Ratcliffe's book lands on our planet with a twist。 Unlike many other movie-based art books, this one details the conception of the Galaxy's Edge lands in two Disney Parks found here on Earth and you can step inside this fantastic world。There is a fair amount of text in this book collection of concept art by both D The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge arrives amid a crowded field of behind-the-scenes concept art books -- including Blade Runnner 2049: Interlinked that I reviewed recently -- but Amy Ratcliffe's book lands on our planet with a twist。 Unlike many other movie-based art books, this one details the conception of the Galaxy's Edge lands in two Disney Parks found here on Earth and you can step inside this fantastic world。There is a fair amount of text in this book collection of concept art by both Disney Imagineer and Lucasfilm artists, though the majority of the pages are filled with painted and sketched designs of all visual and environmental elements of the Star Wars-inspired lands in Anaheim and Orlando。 The art is well presented, though readers and fans might wish that more of the paintings were shown larger -- though that's prohibitive to publishing, of course。 Nevertheless, the cream of this concept art crop is presented in either full page or 3/4 page sizes, plus several larger images spanning two pages。My main impression of this book is that I wish more of these 'blue sky' Galaxy's Edge concepts had been realized in the Disney parks。 I've only seen Disneyland's version of Galaxy's Edge personally, but have seen and read plenty to know that both parks' versions haven't (yet) realized the lands' full entertainment potential。As a theme park creative professional, how well I know that all theme park projects suffer from downsizing from concept to in-park reality。 But Lucasfilm and Imagineers really swung for the fences while envisioning Galaxy's Edge, and sadly some truly fascinating ideas and attractions were left on the drawing room floor。 The harsh facts of opening deadlines and limited budgets (yes, even having $1 billion to spend is still limiting!) inevitably mean cutting favorite concepts that never show up at theme parks。 Sadly, the earliest teasers and descriptions of Galaxy's Edge hinted at interactive and expansive features even while both lands were being constructed, yet these never materialized in the lands。The preview designs of Walt Disney World's upcoming Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience may well deliver the guest-interactive, immersive storytelling experience that Galaxy's Edge once promised -- but at a significant added cost for guests who can afford to book 'passage' in this Star Wars-themed hotel。That aside, Ratcliffe's text and the curated concept art allows readers to follow the evolution of ideas of what Galaxy's Edge might and eventually would be as a Disney park guest experience。 The main advantage of The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is that readers can peruse and study the concept art beautifully presented in this book, then go visit either Disneyland in Anaheim or Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando。 Unlike movie art books, readers can actually compare the concepts to the imaginative reality of Batuu where these new Star Wars adventures happen all around you。 Seeing the Millennium Falcon life-size in person at Galaxy's Edge is an experience all Star Wars fans should enjoy at least once。 Likewise, this art book is recommended to all who enjoy a 256-page glimpse into Imagineers' creative process to realize Disney's most expensive and ambitious land of all to put you in that galaxy far, far away。 。。。more

Beautiful book with great background on my favorite theme park land! The amazing concept art gives insight on how the wonderful aspects of the land came to be and provides hints for areas and experiences that never came to be。 The text and quotes are layered with details and Easter eggs I never knew。 A must for all diehard Batuu fans!
